About Me

My photo
My journey as a writer began as a child. I wrote poems and short stories which were my way of dealing with various life changing events. I am a member of Rave Reviews Book Club. Follow me on Twitter @KIngallsAuthor www.facebook.com/KarenIngalls, and you can find my books at www.amazon.com. My first book is Outshine: An Ovarian Cancer Memoir which received two awards. All proceeds are donated to gynecologic cancer research. My second book is a novel Novy's Son, about one man's attempt to find love and acceptance from his father. This is an all too common problem in our society. My third book, Davida: Model and Mistress of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is about the love affair between this great American sculptor and his model. CHAPTER ONE: HEALTHY BODY

BE INSPIRED TOWARDS A HEALTHIER BODY

Recently I met several gynecologic cancer survivors who are incorporating all, or some, of these 5 steps towards their physical health. They inspire me!

My inspirational husband: In 2 months he has lost 25 pounds...and is motivated to lose more.

On the Internet I met Patti, A Cervical Cancer and Obesity Survivor. She is an inspiration! Read her story at http://www.heavygirltohealthygirl.com/p/about.html

  • EXERCISE ON A REGULAR BASIS: consistency is the key; 30 minutes every day; walking, bicycling, aerobics, or weightlifting are just some choices.
" Dr. Andrea Cheville of the Mayo Clinic said exercise offers significant benefits for
cancer patients."      (Minneapolis Star Tribune, sunday@tribune.com)

  • STAY HYDRATED: 2/3 of our body is water and it is vital to every chemical or metabolic action in our bodies.
"Water helps your body fight fatigue, makes your immune system function more
efficiently...and your body absorb more nutrients and eliminate waste."
(Lori Tanguay, RN, MS, University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center)

  • EAT WHOLE FOODS: eat lean meats, fish, poultry, non-starchy vegetables, fruit, seeds and nuts.
The 125 healthiest foods are "...not highly processed nor do they contain synthetic,
                 artificial or irradiated ingredients." (www.whfoods.com/foodstore.php)

  • USE SUNSCREEN: use 30 SPF or higher in generous amounts that blocks UVB and UVA rays.
"...best sunscreen is one that you'll use generously and according to label
                      instructions." (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/best-sunscreen/MY01350)

  • SLEEP: recommended 8 hours of sleep per night. Good sleep improves everything mentally and physically.
"...plays a critical role in immune function, metabolism, learning, and other
             vital functions." (http://healthysleep.med.harvard.edu/healthy/matters/benefits-of-sleep)

TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY...IT IS THE ONLY ONE YOU GET...NO TRADE-INS

IT IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT FOR THOSE WITH ANY HEALTH ISSUE...
Cancer, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Obesity, Colitis, etc.
