About Me

My journey as a writer began as a child. I wrote poems and short stories which were my way of dealing with various life changing events. I am a member of Rave Reviews Book Club. Follow me on Twitter @KIngallsAuthor www.facebook.com/KarenIngalls, and you can find my books at www.amazon.com. My first book is Outshine: An Ovarian Cancer Memoir which received two awards. All proceeds are donated to gynecologic cancer research. My second book is a novel Novy's Son, about one man's attempt to find love and acceptance from his father. This is an all too common problem in our society. My third book, Davida: Model and Mistress of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is about the love affair between this great American sculptor and his model. CHAPTER THREE: HEALTHY SPIRIT

HOW TO HAVE A HEALTHY SPIRIT

  • BE QUIET: take some quiet time each day to reflect on your thoughts, feelings. "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." (Lincoln)

  • GET GROUNDED: work in a garden; pot a plant; walk on a beach or in a park; look at the stars at night. "Remain open to the magic and wonder around you always." (Zen)

  • GIVE: donate goods or money; volunteer; a random act of kindness; listen to others needs and respond. "Be prepared every day to try to do some good." (Nicholas Winton)

  • STAY CONNECTED: stay in touch with friends, family, your community. "Cherish ...your relationships with friends and family." (Barbara Bush)

  • KEEP A JOURNAL: there are no rules here. Do it in a diary, on the computer, or by using photo albums. Write memories, daily events, or goals...whatever you journal is right. "My journal brings me peace, answers, and deepens my relationship with God."(K. Ingalls)

  • CONNECT WITH GOD: the spirit of God is always with you. "Keep your face to the sunshine, and you cannot see the shadows." (Helen Keller)

My book is the result of the writing I did during my journey with ovarian cancer. It is intended to provide information about this lesser known disease, and to offer hope and inspiration to women and their families.
Proceeds go to ovarian cancer research.

These are all wonderful things to do for a healthy spirit. I try to focus on as many as I can.

A healthy spirit is directly linked to a healthy body and mind.
